In 2017, Denmark and Japan will celebrate 150 years anniversary of diplomatic relations since the signing of the “Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation” in 1867.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the interaction between the people of Japan and Denmark has blossomed with increasing speed in all facets of human relations. The 150th anniversary will be an excellent occasion both to review the development of our friendly relationship and to further strengthen the ties between our two countries.
In Japan, celebrations are coordinated by the Royal Danish Embassy in collaboration with the Danish Chamber of Commerce in Japan, and the Japan-Denmark Society, while the celebrations in Denmark are coordinated by the Japanese Embassy Copenhagen. The Agency for Culture and Palaces is the main coordinator for many of the cultural activities taking place in both countries.
The official logo for the 2017 celebrations combines the two countries flags – Japan’s rising sun and Denmark’s white cross – into one uniform symbol with added lines to suggest meetings and a dynamic interaction. The logo is a reference to both traditional Japanese patterns and Danish simplicity and aesthetics. The logo and the supporting logo text are designed in collaboration between Danish designer, Mr. Henrik Kubel and Japanese designer Mr. Katsumi Asaba.
The logo is available for events and activities by non-governmental actors as long as they fulfill contribute to the 150 years celebrations. The logo is also available for media in connections with articles etc. about the 150 years anniversary. Organisations and individuals can apply for usage of the logo here , while media representatives are asked to send an email to The Royal Danish Embassy briefly stating the usage of the logo with the subject “Request for anniversary logo”.
This website, is the official page for the anniversary celebrations taking place in Japan. It will contain news, a historical timeline and an online calendar for activities and events taking place in Japan. As the Royal Danish Embassy is not the organizer of the majority of the events in the calendar, journalists are asked to make their inquiries about specific events to the event organizer directly.
